Clara Merlo is a medical student attending to a patient as a trainee doctor on the ward. While stabilizing the patient, she herself collapses and suffers a fulminant heart attack. She wakes up in the hospital several days later, only to realize that she has almost died and came back from the brink of death due to a timely heart transplant.

That’s how this aforementioned series based on the namesake novel by Javier Castillo begins, telling the story of Clara and her search for the unknown donor of her newly implanted heart.

So far, the premise looks promising as her search seems plausible. But soon the story veers off from this simple search towards searching for a serial killer in a remote mountain town.

On the surface, it’s searching for her heart donor to quench her curiosity. However, it feels like she is fulfilling someone’s heartfelt wishes to know what happened to his father when he seemingly disappeared without a trace.

Having said that, Clara’s explanation to reach out to her heart donor’s family doesn’t sound convincing- even to her friend. It sounds less plausible to those townspeople. The only person who seems to be on board with Clara’s inexplicable search is Marta Ruiz.

That reunion suddenly gets a twist when a baby disappears from a neighborhood park. The search for that missing baby leads to a search for other missing people over the span of thirty-plus years. The ultimate truth is neither unexpected nor shocking, as several indicators point to it along the way.

This limited episode series is medium-paced, divided across different years and cases of missing people. It gives enough screen time to unmask the truth behind each disappearance. Some of these revelations can be shocking but not surprising. However, the pace falters by the second-to-last episode, when the audience already knows the criminal and the crimes. Then, we have to wait for justice to be served.

Whether it gets served or not – better that question be answered by you as an audience.
