If there is one book you are going to pick for your next vacation read then it has to be this. It is just a perfect company for a traveler’s mind as it captures the thrill of going on a trip, the pleasure of exploring new places and the absolute happiness of meeting new people. It perfectly balances these exciting feelings with what comes afterwards laced in suspense and drama. What a dramatic thrilling ride!

Maisie is a naïve 19-year-old girl from the United Kingdom who plans the above-mentioned hiking trip with her childhood best friend.

They decide to complete the West Coast Trail in the Canadian wilderness as their shared adventure amidst a humdrum existence. But Maisie soon realizes that her best friend was never interested in being part of this trip as it is far removed from her idea of having any fun. So, Maisie decides to push forward and complete the trek on her own.

As luck would have it, she meets Ric and Sera just before starting the trek. Giving sketchy reasons for their finances (or lack thereof) as well as other hiking essentials, they soon buddy up with Maisie. While Sera presents a façade of lively and pretty young girl persona, Ric manages to gain Maisie’s confidence in totality. So much so that she couldn’t believe her own eyes when she finally encounters reality about this overtly friendly brother-sister duo.

Cut to the present times where 20-odd years have passed and we are witnessing the anxious reality of Laura. She is middle-aged woman settled in the United Kingdom and is living a routine suburban life with her husband and two young children. Her almost picture-perfect existence moves from serenity to anxiety once Police investigations lead to discovery of unidentified human remains near the West Coast Trail in the Canadian wilderness.

Things soon start unravelling at an unexpected pace in unexplained ways when Laura and her family’s peaceful existence is threatened by someone linked to the dramatic events occurred during the said hiking trip. But who is trying to emerge from the shadows of the past? And how Laura is connected to whatever happened 20 years ago during that hiking trip? Where exactly is Maisie?

To get answers to all of these questions and untangle the mystery surrounding the unfortunate hiking trip, I would strongly recommend to get your hands on this book at the earliest. The character developments and arc of the entire storyline have been shaped quite dramatically by the author. The plot is filled with repetitive and routine incidents of any hiking trip but these are cleverly intercepted by drama filled suspicious happenings which manage to hold your attention till the very last page.
