Verity | Colleen Hoover

Oh my goodness, what did I just read??!!!! This is psychedelic stuff but still phenomenally fascinating, so engaging that it will keep you awake at night long after it’s finished.

The book itself starts on a gory note acting like a prenomination of what has to come ahead in the storyline when the protagonist of this novel- Lowen Ashleigh witnesses an accident on the streets of New York. As sudden as the experience is, it’s also jarring for her and the reason behind this is revealed much later in the book.

This accident leads to another accident that is Lowen and Jeremy’s meeting. So suddenly but not so much unexpectedly on Jeremy’s part which again Lowen finds out about it subsequently. Readers along with Lowen come across the reason of their sudden encounter since Jeremy Crawford was on the way to an appointment with Lowen and her publishing agent, in order to hire her as a co-author for his wife- Verity Crawford’s continuing book series. All very formal stuff with Verity’s publisher and lawyer presenting the details of this arrangement without Jeremy giving any slightest hint of their previous chance meeting just a few minutes ago.

Considering her financial and personal situation, it’s no surprise that Lowen accepts the generous offer and decides to continue Verity’s remaining novels under a pen name. At this point, readers would start noticing the undercurrent of mutual admiration between Lowen and Jeremy.

Thus, Lowen officially arrives at the Crawford house in Vermont and begins the task of sorting through Verity’s notes to begin drafting the next novel in her highly anticipated and hugely popular book series. Instead of notes, what she finds is a manuscript supposedly written by Verity as a cross between autobiography and journal entries throughout her life with Jeremy. There are graphic and damning details about their family life to put it mildly and some viewers might be put off by these personal confessions at some point in the storyline.

However, the novel doesn’t lose its grip on a fast-paced and thrilling storyline which makes more twisted as this literal car crash comes hurtling towards the finish line. The circumstances become more bizarre when manipulated truths and mistaken assumptions collide with each other.

Does the gradual love story of Jeremy and Lowen play a crucial role in the way this novel ends? Or it could not have an alternate ending due to the psychological elements involved? So can readers be able to separate facts from the facade of truth? To answer all these questions, it’s paramount to read this gripping book and find out for yourself.
