Ushering into 2020 with a strong urge to read more. Well, I won’t call it a New Year Resolution per se; as they are hard to keep. But, I will like to call it as a personal goal to have more times with the books beginning with this year.
Well the first book to appear in my reading list was this – The Lethal White. Well, it was there in my TBR list for a loooooooooonnnnng time and peeking behind from piles of other books. So, here it is.
The book begins where the last one was left off i.e. catching of the ripper; specially the bravery shown by Robin and her impending wedding. Strike gate crashes the wedding and so begins the Robin-Matthew marriage story. Throughout the book, we see this struggle from Robin’s side and how much efforts she is putting into this strained relationship.
Talking about relationships, we also get glimpses of Strike’s world and myriad hues of his relations. From his Ex to hero-worshiping nephew; these accounts make him more of a everyday man rather than a hardened detective. I personally liked these details of both of their personal lives going parallel to the book’s particular storyline.
Coming to the storyline; it is quite complex, with complications strewn throughout its narrative, a long list of characters interconnected through sub-plots and parallels with main story. Quite exhaustive and exciting indeed!!
Not to give away so much of what happens and how it is done; it’s safe to say that it’s story of one family, but intertwined with fate of another family as the book theme stresses.
Oh, not to forget all the characters names. What’ with mythical creatures/ characters and historical references, superb!!
A definitely recommended read.
